I think it’s all in how you interpret rationality versus love. What is love if not sacrificing yourself for the greater good of the colony? I also think his point is that by connecting to honeybees one ends up feeling part of a bigger harmony, and feeling like one small piece of a whole can be healing to the heart. It breaks you out of the idea that we are all disconnected from each other, and makes you feel not so alone.
